A grade of incomplete may be recorded if a student fails to complete the requirements for a course by the end of the course grading period. Once a student completes the requirements, the incomplete grade can be converted to a regular numerical grade. However, according to Graduate School rules, an incomplete cannot be converted to a numerical grade after two years have passed. Instead, the incomplete remains a permanent part of the student's record.
Graduate students who take an incomplete in any required course in the sociology department are expected to complete the work and have the incomplete converted to a grade within one quarter. Delays in converting incompletes to numerical grades will be considered during the annual review process and in the course of making funding decisions.
