Sociology undergraduate George Hua was recently appointed a data analyst position at the Institute for Health Metrics & Evaluation (IHME), an independent global health research center at the University of Washington. The IHME is responsible for research on a variety of issues ranging from vaccines, to disease, air quality, and other issues affecting the health of populations worldwide. Data analysis is one of the many career paths sociology graduates can pursue as they develop an understanding of research needs and analytic functions across a variety of projects. Data analysts work alongside researchers and other analysts on projects that require collaboration and skill sharing, often working with complex databases.
