Beckett and Evans' Research Upends Death Penalty in Washington State

On Thursday, October 11, the Washington State Supreme Court unanimously found that imposing the death penalty violated the state's constitutional bar against cruel punishment, and ended capital punishment in Washington.  Two UW sociologists did the rigorous analytical research that became instrumental to the court's decision.
