Adding Course Listings

1. Email Fatema, and scheduling advising person, and ask if they are ready for classes to be posted on our website. (done by me now).

2. Log-in as editor, and click on the "Manage courses" editor links (2nd row top menu)

3. On the "Manage Courses web page, click on "Add Course List"

4. On "Create Course List" web page, set these items:
"Curriculum Abbreviation" to "Sociology (SOC)"
"Term" to whatever term you are adding to the site (e.g., Winter 2020)
And then click on Save at the bottom of the page.

5. Step 4 causes the web site to automatically draw in the time schedule for that quarter from the time scheduler program. It will also cause the list on the website to automatically update from the time scheduling system for these things:
- Changes in courses already listed
- Courses dropped or closed

BUT - if any courses or section are ADDED, then you will have to manually add those (see below). Let Fatema and the course scheduler in advising know that you have now uploaded that upcoming quarters class list to the site, and that if they add anything, you need the particulars so that you can add it to the site (new courses).

6. It might take 24 to 48 hours for the feed to make it into the website. Sign back in as editor, and click on "Manage Courses". On the Manage Courses web page, the quarter of courses you added listed "SOC Courses - quarter year". Click on the link for the quarter you want to edit.

7. When looking at the particular quarter, you should see 2 columns: "Course Feeds" and "Course Sections". A course section with only one letter after the number is the primary course feed itself. A course section with 2 letters after the number is a quiz section. (Rules of Thumb"

8. Using the "Course Sections" column, delete all the quiz section, but leave the main course listing.
Why: The course sections clutter up the course list badly and make the web page pretty ugly also. This is the work around Kate Stovel and I came up with when Arts and Sciences refused us deleting the "Courses" web page function entirely and just pointing people to the time schedule.

9. If alerted by Fatema or the time scheduler adviser that a new course has been added, you will need to add it to the feed. To add: Sign in as editor and go to the Manage Courses editing section. There is a link there to "Add Single Course Feed". Follow those instructions to add the single course. Additional Quiz sections do not need to be added, just stand alone courses.

When done, the full course list should be on the Courses - Upcoming website

Make sure all the instructors from the time schedule are not only listed, but also have a link to their profile in our website if they are SOC faculty and lecturers or students. No link will occur if they are from outside SOC.
