Sound Transit Project Group 2026

UW Sociology is proud to be working with Sound Transit to improve local transportation services with the hope to make Seattle public transportation safer and more user friendly.

A research team from UW Sociology, including faculty Dr. Kyle Crowder and Dr. Nathalie Williams, 14 undergraduate students and 5 graduate students, has been working with Sound Transit partners to improve Seattle public transportation. Their research focuses on the Link light rail, investigating people's perceptions of the system, patterns of disorder on and around the system, and opportunities to form community partnerships to improve public transportation and other services.

We are especially proud of the dedicated team of undergraduate and graduate students who have been a vital part of the research team this summer helping to develop radio PSAs to promote the study, posting signs in various neighborhoods, helping with mailings, testing data collection instruments, and working in the field to gather comprehensive data on patterns and drivers of disorder on the transit system.

The data collected will help Sound Transit plan for the future and make our transportation system work more efficiently and equitably.

We look forward to continuing this mutually beneficial partnership with Sound Transit, and to giving students further opportunities to apply their knowledge and hands-on learning for future careers and contribute to our community in a meaningful way.
