Mind the Gap, a newly published clinical handbook co-authored by a second-year medical student, aims to help doctors and other medical students identify how symptoms of disease appear in non-white skin tones.  The book addresses a deep imbalance in what skin tones are represented in photo illustrations in medical texts.  The unequal representation means doctors have historically been handicapped in correctly diagnosing non-white patients.  UW Assistant Professor Patricia Louie's research reveals the size of the gap that Mind the Gap seeks to address.  Read more at the Washington Post article:
